Apocalyptic Futures
With the board game designed for four players, I aimed to spotlight the potential challenges and opportunities that both speculative and real futures hold for us.
The Biblical apocalyptic horsemen represent conqueror, war, famine, and death; four things that lurk upon people from the outside, independently of the individual.
With the social game Apocalyptic Futures I state that the horsemen actually come from within us, naming them overwork obsession, material possession, information overload, and technological dependence.

The game is already inclined towards apocalypse from the beginning, against which the four players fight by solving challenges and unpredictable events in freely formed pairs. The basis of the game is dialogue, arguing solutions or interventions to given challenges of speculative future. The game thus encourages creative thinking about what all could be possible in the future. However, the challenges are nevertheless both negative and positive, so players must also morally position themselves regarding certain problems. Therefore, we ask what will be our apocalypse and what will be our revelation?
The game’s message was later transformed into animation for the second edition of Proglas in Motion.
